About these images

kathy and patrick murillo

They were created by me, as well as my husband, Patrick. I used to only doodle before I met Patrick. Throughout the early days of our marriage, I never believed I could draw.

Finally, one day he refused to draw imaged for me and sat down and started giving me lessons. Frustration set in at first. I liked the idea of giving him my idea and seeing him bring it to life.

Me learning to draw for myself was one of the best gifts he gave me (in addition to our kids and happy life!).

Tips for creativity

We know our little friends: Self-doubt, regrets, and comparison

Just like with writing or singing or anything – painting and illustration takes practice, lots and lots of practice until you get your groove. My problem back then, like many people, as soon as the going got tough and I stumbled or make a mistake, I diverted to comparing my work to others and gave up.

No more!

I tell myself to focus on what I do best, put my work-in-progress away and work on something more concrete, like blogging or crafting.

Just go for it!

1. Pick a passion project or a genre or skill you’ve always wanted to learn.

2. Take a class or search YouTube videos to improve your technique.

3. Focus on a theme so your ideas are manageable.

4. Work on it consistently so it becomes part of your life.

5. Set a deadline or goal marker for stages of your work.

Happy Valentine’s Day, I hope you enjoy these free Valentine corazón coloring pages!

  1. I love this! And I love that it’s so reflective of your style. That’s one thing that excites me about this book – all the different styles! And I love your description of this project.

The thing I love so much about you is how absolutely ALIVE you are. I’ve listened to interviews with you (Go Diane at CraftyPod! 😉 and your voice literally smiles. And so does your writing. And so do all your projects. You just keep on sending your smiley goodness out into the world, mmmkay?;-)
