NutellaChurroBalls

I was super excited to be involved with this campaign for Maseca flour! Purely for emotional reasons… Maseca corn flour was always a cooking staple of my dad. He used it to thicken his red chili sauce for his tamales; to make chunky corn tortillas, and all kinds of other yummy things!
But I’m not exactly the gourmet chef, you know? So I decided to stay in my comfort zone and think up a Chubby Girl Delight. I visited the Maseca site and found an easy recipe for…CHURROS! I figured I would add my own twist! And here we are!

churros-supplies

1-1/2 cups of Maseca flour
1-1/2 cups of flour
1 tablespoon of baking soda
2-1/2 cups of hot water
2 egg yolks
1/2 teaspoon of salt
5 tablespoons of brown sugar
1 jar of Nutella
Chopped hazelnuts
Oil for frying
Cinnamon sugar

churros-steps

First you want to mix all the dry ingredients, then the wet. Mix well!
Roll them into little balls. Heat up the oil and start with one ball. Insert in the oil using tongs. Let it cook until it browns. Once you like how it looks, remove it and place on a paper towel-lined plate. Sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar. Next, you want to break open the jar of Nutella and frost the top of each ball. Sprinkle some crushed hazelnuts too. Serve warm.

  1. what if you cook the Maseca dough in a pot with some milk before adding eggs and other ingredients and then fry the little balls?
