Gobs of golf clubs!
I implore the Crafty Chica for a little help. My husband was given his father's set of golf clubs when he passed away. Neither of us golf and the clubs have been stored away in our garage. We would like to display them somewhere in our home as a reminder and in honor of my father-in-law. My problem is that I haven't been able to think up a clever display (other
than the standard displays I've seen in framing shops, or as a tacky lamp or legs of a table). There are about eight to twelve clubs. Do you have any suggestions?
Gracias,
Theresa
Wow, thats a lot of clubs to deal with. If it were me, I would take one and have it encased in a large shadowbox along with dad's picture and a little memory note of how he liked golf or a funny golf story of his. And then I would hang it in the family room with all the other family picutres. You could always saw the clubs down to make them legs for a table, or pass out one to each family member. Or you could donate them in his name to a local charity, maybe a golf club he was a member of. But I would for sure keep the best one for the box. If you have kids, maybe you could save the set for them in case they grow up to be golfers. That would be way cool to have Grandpa's clubs!
Best of luck and Merry Christmas!

Hello -
I saw the microscope slide necklaces you made on Crafters and love them. I have been wanting to make them for a while now and finally got all of my supplies but I am not having any luck. I am placing images between two microscope slides and using copper tape around the edges. I then have tried a variety of solders and I am not getting a nice smooth beaded edge around the glass. I have tried flux free solder and it has a very jagged feeling to the solder and when I use solder with flux it gets a residue on the edges. I have tried to clean the residue off with baking soda(read that somewhere) and it makes the solder feel sticky. I know you are so busy but if you get a minute and have any advice I would appreciate it. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Cheryl
Hi Cheryl! I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble. Actually for that project, I didn't use solder at all, I just used silver tape to get the look of solder (that's why it looks so smooth). But I did another project with solder and what I did was buy a small jar of flux and then solder wire. I covered the edges with copper tape and then painted on the flux, and then I applied the solder and it worked just right. Hope this helps!! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving too!!

Love your work JoAnna, you are so talented! You can buy a silk screen set up at art supply stores, or you can make your own. I would go with the latter. just think of all the things you could do with it - make cards, shirts, fabric for clothing and pillows, tote bags and t-shirts of course! OK, Now I want to go make a silk screen frame...Thank YOU for the inspiration!

Kathy: I love your site, and look at it just about every day. I don't know how you do it all! I'm the mom of 4--two boys and six-year-old twins. I related to your "store-bought" Halloween costume dilemma. One of my sons wanted a thirty dollar filmy Frodo costume with fluorscent "buttons" that were just printed on the vest. The cape looked like a little Lord of the Rings superman. Anyway, I was able to convince him that we could come up with a better one. We used a salvation army green blanket to make a cape, and improvised knickers and a vest. It turned out great.
Anyway, my question is what kind of glue sticks do you use in your glue gun? It seems that whenever I attach something (buttons, wood, etc) using a glue gun, once the glue dries it cracks off from what I've attached it to. I'd like to try your scrabble tile ornaments, but anticipate that this would happen again. Any suggestions? Thanks! And have a great Thanksgiving.
Amy R., Wheaton IL
Hola Amy!
Love the Halloween costume idea, I'd love to see a picture! As far as the glue, I'm a high temp girl and I have the scars to prove it - however, I don't use hot glue on a lot of things. I use E6000 or Crafter's Pick the Ultimate. What I do is double up, I first put a dab of E6000 and then a dab of hot glue, so the hot glue holds the item in place while the other glue dries. On some things, hot glue is just fine, like the Scrabble tiles to ribbon.
When in doubt, check out This to That, a clever web site that is all about the sticky stuff!
Crafty Chica,
I have to tell you that you are the most creative and dynamic person. I used to read your column when I lived in Tempe -- now I'm in the Florida Panhandle so THANK YOU for your website! It, and you, are simply fantastic! I have a question for you. I saw your Dia de los Muertos lights on your store site, and it has inspired me to paint the boring old round white lights my husband puts on our Christmas tree every year. They are even sugared too and I'd like to paint them to look like ornaments. Problem is that I haven't actually done much with paint other than acrylic. What kind of paint is that that you used? The colors are so vibrant and holds its shape so well. Wishing you continued success in all that you do. And thanks for all the inspiration you give to me.
Tina
Hi Tina!
Thanks for noticing my lights! I used Scribbles Dimensional paint to make them look like the edible icing used on the real sugar skulls. The trick, though, is to let them dry for a couple hours to make sure they aren't sticky. I think they will do a nice job on your tree lights, especially the glittered paints!
Thanks for writing!!
Kathy :-)
Hi Kathy:
Glad to see you and your site are still going strong. I have a question for you, that is not necessarily about crafting,
though it is about sharing ideas/graphics. This Christmas I'd like to make some recipe CDs that would include
photos, and dare I wish for a bit of music, too? Problem is, I have absolutely NO clue about where to start. If worse comes to worse, I will settle for putting a bunch of Word files onto a CD with cool, self-created label. But I'd like something with a bit more pizazz. Even if it was only some icons that could appear on each file instead of the Microsoft Word logo.
My ideal CD would give the viewer a listing of all of the recipes on the CD (maybe 30 or 40 MAX). As the person viewed the recipe names, they could either click on the name and zip right to the recipe, or to the file for the recipe.
Any ideas?
If it comes down to it, I can certainly whip up a cool little booklet and bind it in a unique way, adding my own graphics. But since you are the Crafty Chica, I thought I'd check with you first. I think this is an excellent token gift for neighbors, friends you don't necessarily exchange gifts with, and for folks who give you an unexpected gift.
Thanks for your time
Judi
Hi Judi!
That is such a cool idea! A music CD is easy, you can just uplaod songs onto a disc and then use a fun printing program to decorate the cover - or better yet, you could make a cover and then have it color copied. I'm sure adding Word files for recipes is just as much of a snap, if not easier. You could call Kinkos and ask, or hopefully someone reading this can post a comment on how exactly to do it. Sorry I'm not much help!
Please let me know how it goes!!
Warmest regards,
Kathy :-)
look at what you have created, and see swomething I have only dreamt about. I read what made you start out, and the belief of your Man, his encouragement for something you most definitely have- T*A*L*EN*T!!! Is awesome. I have been doing my little arts and crafty stuff for years. I create with junk that people even laugh at me, saying "Oh God, what is that girl up to now??!!!". And I never forget to thank God for letting my visions out to friends and family even if not to the whole entire world. I get bored making one thing, but lately instead of painting furniture, (space VERY limited having moved home to my Mom's at 49 & living out since I was 18) caused me to start jewelry making. I now have beads all over the floor, in my bed, next to my dresser, and tons of half projects. But oh when they are finished!!!!----- I may be famous someday. My Tio Lupe says if he could invest he would give me a shop to sell my little signs, and jewelry and "doo-dads" for lack of a better word. And I smile, because his and my family's love of my treasures is enough. I dont have a scanner to show you my things, but I will write again sometime. Reason for this entire letter de "ATTAGIRL"??? Because I admire a person that can keep her feminine side, a family, a sense of humor, and a peacefulness that shows all the way through her soul in pictures I have seen on your 7months ago newly found from me website. And I want your picture, signed no less sent to me : Yvonne
Girl, I'm speechless! Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I wish I could give you a huge crafty hug. You need to put up a web site to show off your work. Email me and I'll help you get rolling!!!

Hi Kathy,
First, I love your site, it provides me great inspiration for all things good and crafty! My question is this, I live in Pittsburgh, and our local brewery just teamed up with Alcoa to make these amazing new "bottles." They look just like regular beer bottles but are made of sturdy aluminum. I love them and would love to make some kind of awesome craft out of them. The problem is this, all the writing and logos seem to be FUSED on the bottles. Nothing is getting it off. I thought about making a funky wreath with them, but past that, I'm brain dead! I'd appreciate any sort of ideas! Oh and if you want to see the bottles, this is what they look like:

Thanks so much!
Leigh
Hello lovely Leigh! I'm going to give you a tip on a project I'm currently working on that will work PERFECT for this. Buy this stuff called Terrifically Tacky Tape, it's double sided super strong tape. It comes in different sizes and rolls. You can cover the area with the logo and then embellish it with colored yarn, pretty thread or micro beads or - gasp - glitter! Spell out words or put a simple image. Or you can cover the whole dang bottle and use it as a vase for a rose or poinsettia. Hope this helps!!
Kathy :-)
Great site. looks like there are a lot of great crafts to look at, however; there are a lot of dead links. Do you plan on updating the site any time soon.
Thanks in advance,
Cheryl
Howdy Cheryl - Yup, I'm well aware of that. The AZCentral server recently got swooped clean and many of my projects from 2000-2001 went to the cyber graveyard. I do have them backed up, I just need to find the time to put them all back online. Please check back in a week or so, it's at the top of my list, promise!

Kathy,
What can I use to affix rose petals to paper (organically made) Plain old Elmer's glue? Will it last? What do you recommend? I need something that is transparent but that will stand the test of time. Congratulations on all your success! I remember when you were just starting out!!!!!

Hi!
Thanks for writing in and for the kind words! I would go with Crafter's Pick The Ultimate. It is water based on works on *everything* from metal to paper. Good stuff! Here is a picture of what it looks like and you can buy it at Diane Ribbon and Notions in Phoenix.
Gracias and glitter!

Hi!
I've been visiting your site for what seems like ages now - probably from not long after you started it :]! Anyway, I remember that some time ago, you did a wonderful and thorough article for getcrafty.com about starting your own craft business that had a lot of great nitty-gritty info in it. I have looked on both your site and theirs, and I did see where you posted part of the article in your blog, but I cannot find the full version of the article, including the tips. Is there any chance that someone has the full version of the info? I've looked at other crafting-for-cash type sites, but they a) don't have the same fun spirit that your article did, b) aren't as concise and honest. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks (especially for the inspiration!)
-'tasha
Well thanks to you, Tasha, for writing! This is the most I could salvage from it, just the main story. I know, there was a killer side bar with lots of info, I'll have to rewrite it all someday. In the meantime, check out Susan Beal's run down.
Gracias and glitter,
Kathy
how do you do it?
i am blowing kisses at your exsistence.....how do you do it all? 2 kids, a hussy, a thriving crafty carreer....and you seem to be somewhat sane. loved your web site
thanks, sarah
Hi Sarah!
Here is a kiss back at you too!! I think I do it all because I love it and it sucks to have an idea and not to do anything about it and then a month later you see it some where and want to kick yourself and say "I should have jumped on that back then!". I like to feell like I've accomplished something, otherwise the world keeps on turning you get one day older. I like to make my days count for something...That's the best way I can explain it!
Gracias and glitter,
Kathy :-)
