Summer Spice Sachets

These summer spice sachets will add a refreshing and crisp scent to your closet, suitcase, laundry room, bedroom, bathroom and even your beach bag. And you’ll never believe what I made them with as an ingredient: Cinnamon PEBBLES™!

I signed on with Post Foods to share some creative DIY projects using the entire Pebbles line of cereals. I love this because it shows versatility beyond the obvious, it really pushed me to think literally “out of the box” – or bowl I should say. Once I started to brainstorm ideas, I couldn’t stop. I have all my other ideas on deck, so stay tuned! In the meantime, check out PebblesCereal.com. It’s an activity site for kids and has all kinds of coloring pages, games, crafts to make and more.

Post just came out with Cinnamon PEBBLES, a fun treat for the summer. I thought this would be a great way to kick off the series. After you eat your bowl of cereal, you can use it to get crafty to make these sachets.

Many people think the cinnamon scent is just for the holiday season, but it actually is great aroma all year round. After doing some research, I found articles from medical and holistic sites that explain how the smell of cinnamon has a lot of benefits for your brain! It not only helps boost your memory but also can curb food cravings. And well, it just smells so yummy!

In addition to the Cinnamon PEBBLES Cereal, I incorporated dried lavender because it gives a calming vibe. Then I rounded it all off with a drop of citrus essential oil and dried orange peels, which I made myself. I’ll show you how to do that too!

Summer Spice Sachet supplies:

  • Cinnamon PEBBLES cereal, one cup
  • Dried lavender, one cup
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • Citrus essential oil
  • Dried orange peel

Before I started making the mix, I needed sachet bags. You can find these at the craft store. I didn’t want to use basic sheer bags. You know me, I have to add color to everything.

I bought a dozen small cotton muslin bags on Amazon and hand drew designs, as well as used some of my new Crafty Chica cling stamps. Then I used fabric markers to color them all.

Before we go on, let’s dry out those orange peels.

How to make dried orange peels

Preheat your oven to 200 degrees.

Peel a large orange.

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or a brown paper bag.

Place orange peels on the sheet and bake for 30 minutes.

Remove from oven, let cool and tear into small pieces.

Sure you can buy dried orange peels as potpourri, but it’s way more fun to make your own. They smell so tingly and fresh, a perfect add-in to these summer spice sachets!

Now to continue…

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and toss. Break the cinnamon sticks apart as well.
