World Maker Faire just took place last weekend and while I wasn’t there – this piece of jewelry that I made was! It was all thanks to Bernzomatic, I share a torch and/or soldering project tutorial every month here on Crafty Chica and they invited me to make some jewelry for their booth at World Maker Faire!

Maker Faire has such a special place in my heart. It’s where we launched the Crafty Chica line back in 2008! I haven’t been to one in a few years so it was nice to be there in spirit.

For the necklace, this was my inspiration – the whole concept of being a “maker.” The hearts are actually solder wire that I heated with the Bernzomatic 3 in 1 Tool and then stamped and fused them to get thoat look. The hearts are attached to the pendant – wood, surrounded by solder and rhinestones to show off the variety of elements we use in art and craft, and how it being light to the world! And the arm milagro is to represent the body part involved in bringing ideas to life.

To make this, I used the Bernzomatic ST500: 3 in 1 Micro Torch, decal paper on a wood piece, copper tape, flux, gloves, goggles, rhinestone trim and jump rings.

Print out the design on the decal paper (backwards), then add adhesive spray to the wood and place the images face down on the wood. Burnish, let set a few minutes, then peel away paper backing. crafty-chica-maker-faire3

Apply copper tape around the wood piece and burnish the edges well with your finger or a bone folder. crafty-chica-maker-faire4

Coat the copper tape with flux, nice and evenly.crafty-chica-maker-faire5

Wearing goggles and gloves, turn on the torch according to the package directions and heat up the solder. Then drag it along the copper tape. I used a fire brick and clamps to  help me keep it positioned.crafty-chica-maker-faire6

This is what it will look like as you add the solder!

Use an extra strength adhesive to add the trim around the edges and let dry. Insert the jump ring and hang from a chain or ribbon!crafty-chica-maker-faire8

Here’s that finished piece again!

From the Bernzomatic site:

“Find Your Fire. There’s a fire in each of us. Waiting to ignite. We believe in carrying the torch ignited by our founder in 1876—whose quality craftsmanship and progressive mindset are what blazed the trail that got us here today. We believe in awakening the innovators in all of us—inspiring a culture of creators who can break boundaries, mark new territory and go where no flame has burned before. We believe in empowering those who’ve found their flame and dare to follow it. Because the ones who do are the catalysts of bold transformations that redefine the limits of what we can achieve.   We believe in our fire and in your fire. It’s time to ignite.”

Thanks so much for checking out my project!
