Sometimes – a lot of times – I need tough love reminders. Snappy phrases that keep me on track. That’s why I made these woodburned tags. Each one shows off a message I need to remember! And I multitasked by playing with one of my new toys that I scored from the craft convention. Walnut Hollow has a new Versa-Tool woodburning kit, so I thought this would be a great time to put it to use!
Before you start on this project, think about the reminders you need to see every day. It’s good to have uplifting ones like “stay positive!” but honestly, you need some like, “Get to the point” too. Finish what you start! Also, “Know your why.” This is a biggie for me.
Why am I working on this project?
Why am I spending too much time on Facebook?
Why am I worrying about something silly?
You get the idea! Choose whatever phrase you want/need to keep you on track!
Question – does it ever bug you that I always have to put a message into every project? Like, are you thinking right now – “Kathy, maybe I just want to wood burn flowers. I don’t want tough love on my wall!”
You know, that is perfectly fine too. Craft to find your happiness, that is what makes me happy! 🙂

Start by lightly drawing out your design on the wood tag. You may even want to practice on paper first. Erase any lines you don’t want to woodburn.
Plug in the tool and let it heat up for 4 to 5 minutes. Follow along your penciled designs. Do not breathe in any of the smoke, in fact, it might be good to wear a paper mask, just to avoid the smoke! Use a dry brush to sweep away any dust after you’re done.
Add color! Use the markers to fill in any spaces.
I also think these would be fun to make and trade with friends! Or maybe gifts to give away at a party.

Love those little tags and reminders. I just bought the Wood Hollow Value kit and started wood burning. I didn’t see those cute tags when I was at the store, I just used some scrap lumber from hubby’s projects.
