New paintings!

"Frida in Heart Sunnies" by Kathy Cano-Murillo. 17x21"

My art collective I belong to, The Phoenix Fridas, recently took down our annual exhibit. Here are the pieces I painted for the show! It was very nerve-wracking at first because it’s always scary to put your stuff out there. Especially when you see one vision in your mind of how you want your finished pieces to look, but your skill set hasn’t quite caught up. I spend many hours on these and you know what? We have to make the most of every opportunity and push ourselves to grow and get better. So I’m just gonna post these here for all the world to see! NOTE: My next challenge is to take on shading!

Wow, you sure can see imperfections in a photo! I see all kinds of flaws that I didn’t notice on the actual painting. Even so, I really dig this one. I know to take pictures of my progress while working on a painting. It’s kinda like reading your writing out loud. It gives a whole  new perspective!

"Fridita" by Kathy Cano-Murillo, 17x21"
“Fridita” by Kathy Cano-Murillo, 17×21″

I call this one “Fridita” because she looks so young – it’s because of the round face. Round faces make painted girls look younger and longer faces make them look older. In my experience, at least! She has her face painted for Dia de los Muertos! frida-angel Argh, this Frida angel one has some issues, I made her mouth too long, and the black line at the top of her lip kinda looks like a moustache! But I plan on fixing that with a little gesso and repainting it. I’ll post a picture when I’m done!

"Giant Eye Frida" 12x12"
“Love at First Sight Frida” 12×12″

This is a young and sprightly Frida when a cute guy catches her eye! I realize her eyes are waayyy too close together and too big, but it is what it is! I’m still proud of my progress!

This one is from when I took Jaime Lynn Dougherty’s Bloom Girls class! I loved her tips for drawing and painting faces. Very helpful! I still need to get the hang of lips though! Jamie is such a talented artist, every single thing she paints or draws is a 100% WOW piece of art. She inspires so many people! Make sure to check out her site!

And here is another from Jamie’s class, I kinda spun i toff in my own direction! Well, thanks for checking out my recent paintings.I don’t think I’ll have time to paint any more for a while. I have the Crafty Chica product line release and tour coming up, then we roll into Dia de los Muertos and the holidays. But who knows? Sometimes when things get REALLY hectic and I feel like I’m ready to burst from stress, I stop and paint. So we’ll see what happens. Which painting is your favorite?
