No time to dress up for Halloween? This Bewitching Top Hat will come in handy. It’s fashionable and super easy to make.
Supplies:
Black and patterned fabric, I used some southwestern-themed fabric because I love the bright colors. You can make your witch hat ANY way you want, break tradition, add your own personality!
16 gauge wire, clippers, tape
Scissors
Brush
Craft knife
Rick Rack
Cut a piece of scrapbook cardstock from 12×12 inches down to 12×7″ and roll it into a cone, glue ends together.
Cover it with fabric, let dry and trim excess fabric. Make sure your cone is even the bottom so it will rest flat on the base.
To make the base, cut a piece of wire to 12″ and bend it into a circle, tape the ends together. If you use thinner wire, simply double up. Set the wire frame on fabric and glue and cut around the edges to cover it. Now glue and cut a second piece of fabric to cover the other side, trim excess.
Use glue to add the bias tape around the edge of the brim to hide the raw edges.
The fabric will be taut, cut two slits with a craft knife.
Thread a strand of ric rac through and tie in a knot to secure. Now glue the top of the hat to the base and let dry.
Add trim, crystals and glitter! I crumpled my hat to make it look like it has been been through all kinds of weather!
You can use this method to make any kind of hat! I used this method from Corrine Leigh at Threadbanger, you can see her video here.
